Join Middle School Show Choir

Yes, we’re starting a Middle School Show Choir for guys and girls living in the Hersey attendance area (River Trails, Mac Arthur, Thomas, St. Peter, St. James, St. Alphonsus and St. Emily schools – all middle school students from these schools are welcome even if you won’t attend Hersey).

It will meet on Monday nights (6:30 PM – 8:30 PM) at Hersey High School beginning late August and run through the beginning of March.

The group will compete in one competition, host the Middle School competition at Chicagoland Showcase (Hersey’s show choir competition) and will appear at a Hersey Choir concert.

Letter to Parents

Dear Students & Parents:

Hersey’s Choir Department is excited to announce that there will be a Middle School Show Choir starting next fall for those students attending River Trails, Mac Arthur, Thomas, St. Peter, St. James, St. Alphonsus and St. Emily schools. All 6th, 7th or 8th grade students from those schools will be eligible to be part of the group regardless of which high school they will be attending. Both guys and girls are encouraged to be involved.

The show choir will be under the direction of the former Hersey High School choral director, Tim Heck.

It will meet once a week on Monday evening, 6:30 – 8:30 PM, at Hersey High School, beginning in late August and run through the beginning of March.

The cost will be approximately $600 (based on membership) which will cover the costs of the director, choreographer, costume, t-shirt, music arrangements, hired combo, rehearsal rental and insurance and one competition to Manteno (fees and bus).

The group will compete in one competition in Manteno on February 10 and will be the host group for the Middle School competition at Chicagoland Showcase to be held at Hersey, March 2, 2012. The group will also perform at a Hersey choir concert.

This group is in no way meant to replace your middle school choir. It is important that the student continue in choir class to help learn good singing technique.

Also, there is a possibility that there will be a show choir camp this summer, based on interest. It would tentatively during June or July (based on your availability).
